TerraCycle’s Pyrolysis Process
Advanced Pyrolysis Technology: At Terra Cycle, we utilize cutting-edge pyrolysis technology to address the global tire waste challenge. This process allows us to efficiently convert discarded tires into valuable by-products while minimizing environmental impact. The breakdown into component of Oil, Carbon black, Steel and Gas.

TerraCycle’s Pyrolysis Process
1. *Feedstock Preparation*:
– *Tire Shredding*: Waste tires are shredded into smaller pieces to increase the surface area for pyrolysis.
– *Conveying System*: The shredded tires are transported to the pyrolysis reactor.
2. *Pyrolysis Reactor*:
– *Heating*: The reactor is heated to a high temperature (typically 400-600°C) in the absence of oxygen.
– *Decomposition*: The heat causes the tires to decompose into different components: pyrolysis oil, carbon black, and pyrolysis gas.
– *Gas Circulation*: Some of the gas generated is reused to heat the reactor.
3. *Condensation System*:
– *Cooling*: The vaporized components are passed through a cooling system.
– *Oil Collection*: The condensed vapors form pyrolysis oil, which is collected in tanks.
4. *Gas Recycling*:
– *Non-condensable Gas*: The non-condensable gas can be recycled back into the system as fuel for the reactor or used for other heating purposes.
5. *Carbon Black Collection*:
– *Filtration and Collection*: The solid residue, mainly carbon black, is collected from the reactor and filtered for further use.
6. *Emission Control*:
– *Gas Scrubber*: Any residual gases are treated to remove harmful substances before being released into the atmosphere.
7. *End Products*:
– *Pyrolysis Oil*: Used as a fuel or feedstock for further processing.
– *Carbon Black*: Used in various industries like rubber manufacturing, inks, and coatings.
– *Steel Wire*: Separated from the tires and collected for recycling.
